How do you choose the right women's padel racket?

First of all, it is important to know that the main difference between a women's racket and a men's racket is weight. Most padel rackets made for women weigh less than 360 grams and are more manoeuvrable than those for men. However, all lightweight rackets, and by extension all rackets available, can be used by women as long as they suit their playing style. The reverse is also true for men: women's rackets, although lighter, can also be used by players seeking manoeuvrability.

When choosing a racket, there are several characteristics to consider in order to buy the racket best suited to your playing style. Read this article on the best women's rackets to find out more.

Shape: diamond, teardrop or round?

The shape of the racket determines the weight distribution of the pala and whether the racket is more power-oriented or control-oriented. Many women's rackets focus on control and have a round shape to promote playing comfort and precision. As we have said, women's play is more tactical and relies more on ball placement than raw power. This is why these rackets have a lower weight balance, closer to the handle, to control opponents' shots as effectively as possible.

However, some rackets feature a diamond shape that best promotes power to unsettle and outpace opponents. The weight is therefore balanced towards the top of the pala to gain explosiveness on high shots such as viboras or smashes. For a more balanced and versatile game, the teardrop shape is also common in women's rackets.

Faces: carbon or fibreglass?

The faces are also important when choosing a racket because they are the first part to touch the ball during a shot. Two different materials can be used to make these faces: carbon and fibreglass.

Offering more control and forgiveness, fibreglass is recommended for beginners or intermediate players. It is also less expensive and is often used on entry-level and mid-range rackets. Carbon, on the other hand, is stiffer and more difficult to control but devastating when mastered. Recommended for experienced players, it is also more expensive and racket prices will therefore be higher.

Foam: soft or stiff?

Foam (also called rubber) is the material located between the faces that makes the racket more or less soft. There are two types of foam: Soft foam and Hard foam, and they are very different. Soft foam makes the racket more comfortable and easier to control and helps minimise unforced errors, while Hard foam makes the racket stiffer and therefore more aggressive and more powerful. It is therefore up to you to choose the foam and racket best suited to your game.

Women's rackets: which one should you choose according to your playing level?

It is very important to have a racket that is perfectly suited to your level and playing style. Indeed, if you are a beginner, you will need a fairly accessible racket with a round or teardrop shape, and a fibreglass surface that will improve control and playing comfort. Ideal for limiting frustrating unforced errors at the start. For more experienced players, carbon rackets can be considered. They will be stiffer and allow you to reveal your full potential!

Your playing style must also be respected. If you are a player who prioritises control, then a round shape should be preferred for greater control. For powerful players, the diamond shape will be the most suitable. Foam also plays a role in the racket's stiffness and how it is used. The stiffer the racket, the more suitable it will be for powerful players.

Padel is becoming increasingly feminine!

Although most of its players are men, padel is increasingly opening up to women. Many mixed competitions and women-only tournaments are emerging and attracting more and more participants. Despite a slow start due to the sport's lack of popularity, women's padel is gradually developing and has more and more regular players. Our article on the evolution of women's padel on our blog discusses this, so read it if you would like more information.

Brands are also embracing women's participation

The biggest manufacturers in the padel world are aware of this trend and do not hesitate to produce special women's rackets. Thus, Babolat, Bullpadel, Head and Nox offer padel rackets for men as well as for women, while retaining their expertise and cutting-edge technologies.

Follow in the footsteps of your favourite professional players

On the professional circuit and in Spain in general, women's place in padel is important and brings welcome diversity for all players. Stars such as Alejandra Salazar, Marta Marrero and Alix Collombon for France are very popular on the circuits and bring a breath of fresh air and a different style of play from men. More tactical and less fast-paced, women's play may be a little less spectacular but remains enjoyable to watch and, above all, more realistic for players who do not have the power of the world's very best.
