How do you choose your padel racket? 

When choosing a padel racket, several factors need to be considered, as they can completely change a player's hitting feel. Unlike women's padel rackets and children's padel rackets, men's rackets have no weight limit and can sometimes be quite heavy. It is therefore up to you to choose the racket with which you will feel the ball best. 

Shape: control or power? 

Padel rackets come in 3 different shapes that define the "DNA" of the racket. Diamond-shaped rackets are those that offer the most power to the player thanks to their head-heavy balance, useful for smashing high balls. However, they are less easy to control than round rackets for example, where the weight is more towards the handle, which helps make fewer mistakes and better control opponents' balls. Between the two is the teardrop shape, which is fairly balanced and versatile. 

Faces: which material should you choose? 

2 materials are used to make the faces of a padel racket: carbon and fibreglass. Fibreglass is used for more "entry-level" rackets because it is less expensive and, above all, much more flexible and forgiving, ideal for beginners who want to learn the ropes with complete peace of mind. Conversely, carbon is a stiffer material and therefore more difficult to master, but it is formidable once you have enough experience. Rarer and therefore more expensive, "high-end" rackets are often made of carbon.

Unlike fibreglass, carbon can have different densities. This is why there are often numbers following the name of the racket, such as 3k for example. This means that there are 3,000 carbon filaments making up the pala. The more filaments there are, the denser and stiffer the racket is, making it powerful but also difficult to control. Some manufacturers use up to 18,000 carbon filaments in their rackets. 

Foam: Soft or Hard? 

The racket foam (also called rubber) is what sits between the 2 faces and makes the racket more or less soft. With Soft foam, shots feel more comfortable and offer greater precision, but it slows down the balls, which can be detrimental for smashes and other powerful shots. Hard foams, on the other hand, are stiffer and harder, allowing you to hit powerful, explosive balls, at the expense of control. It is therefore up to you to choose the racket with the composition best suited to your playing style and reveal your true potential!
