A look back at her career
Her early days in padel
As a child, Delfina Brea played sports including football, basketball and handball before she began to stand out with a racket in hand in Argentine junior tennis. She competed at a semi-professional level until the age of 12, when she decided to switch to the 20 × 10 m padel court because of the physical differences between her and her opponents.
Her father, Nito Brea, one of Argentina's most renowned players, played a key role in that decision. He ran a padel club in Buenos Aires, where Delfi began to train every day.
Her rise
In 2015, aged just 15, Delfina Brea secured sponsorship that enabled her to travel to Spain, a trip that proved crucial in helping her consider a professional career in padel. Two years later, at 17, she moved to Spain, leaving her family behind to pursue her dream. She began adapting to the elite level of the World Padel Tour alongside Sara Pujals, and in 2018 the experienced Ana Catarina Nogueira put her faith in Delfi, giving her the chance to show what she could do despite her youth.
Changing partners and breaking through
Alongside Ana Catarina Nogueira, Delfi began to establish herself as a leading player by winning the Valladolid Challenger. Her impressive performances attracted the attention of the top players, and she reached 20th place in the World Padel Tour rankings at just 18.
Mapi Sánchez Alayeto, then joint number one with her sister Majo, subsequently asked Delfi to partner with her. After that spell, Delfi began her first partnership with Bea González, forming a very young and promising pair. They won two Challenger titles, in Paris and San Javier, and reached the semi-finals of the Master Final.
In 2020, she teamed up with Ana Catarina Nogueira again, but this spell was less successful. Delfi then partnered with Tamara Icardo, forming a resilient team that won several titles and climbed towards the top of the world padel rankings. However, their success in 2021 was not repeated in 2022, largely due to injuries and inconsistent form.
After a difficult spell with Sofia Araújo, Delfi reunited with Bea González in 2023 and returned to winning ways, claiming eight titles that season.
Her equipment
Her Bullpadel racket
Like her partner and the great player Gemma Triay, Delfina Brea plays with a Bullpadel racket. More specifically, she uses the Bullpadel Vertex 04 Woman 2024 racket, designed for attacking players looking to finish points with power. This diamond-shaped racket has a high balance, favouring smashes. It is made with innovative materials such as Fibrix on the outer surface and MultiEva in the core, offering exceptional responsiveness and control.
What does she wear?
In competition, Delfi wears padel outfits that are lightweight and breathable and allow plenty of freedom of movement. Her outfits are made by Bullpadel, her clothing sponsor, and feature bright colours that reflect her energy and dynamic style on court.
What is Delfi's playing style?
Delfina Brea is known for her aggression at the net and her ability to sustain a high tempo of play. She excels at switching quickly from defence to attack, using her viboras and deep volleys to hit winners. Her determination and ability to seize chances for winning shots at key moments in a match are remarkable.
Standout matches
One of her most memorable matches came at the Santander Open 2021, where she won her first WPT title with Tamara Icardo and was named the tournament's MVP. In 2023, Delfi won several tournaments with Bea González, cementing their place among the world's best pairs.
Her character and impact on the sport
Delfina Brea is admired for her passion and energy on court. She brings an intensity and determination that inspire her teammates and young players. Her advice to beginners is never to give up, to keep persevering and to surround themselves with a team they can trust.
