Marta Marrero's beginnings and rise

Marta Marrero was first a professional tennis player before switching to padel. In tennis, she reached world number 47 and won several ITF and WTA titles. In 2013, she decided to turn to padel, a choice that would mark the beginning of a successful new career.

2013-2015: The first successes in padel

Marta Marrero began playing on the World Padel Tour in 2013 alongside Alejandra Salazar. After a period of adaptation, they made a name for themselves on the circuit. In 2015, although often overshadowed by Mapi and Majo Sánchez Alayeto, they began to show their potential.

2016-2018: The peak with Alejandra Salazar

In 2016, Marta Marrero and Alejandra Salazar reached the top of the World Padel Tour rankings thanks to an exceptional season. However, in 2017, Alejandra Salazar suffered a serious injury, forcing Marta to temporarily partner with Cata Tenorio. Despite this setback, Marta improved her game, strengthening her defensive and attacking skills. In 2018, back with Alejandra, they finished the season as the second-best pair in the padel rankings, while being the pair that won the most titles that year.

2019-2020: Rising to power with Marta Ortega and Paula Josemaría

In 2019, Marta Marrero partnered with Marta Ortega, a young prodigy. Together, they dominated the circuit, winning seven titles and finishing the season at the top of the rankings. In 2020, Paula Josemaría became her new partner, forming a formidable pair.

2021-present: A break for motherhood

In 2021, Marta Marrero decided to take a break from her padel career to focus on motherhood. She plans to return to the courts in 2024. She remains in the top 10 most decorated players, alongside Gemma Triay, Beatriz González, Delfina Brea and Claudia Fernandez.

Aurial Padel

Away from the courts, she also contributes to the development of padel through her company Aurial Padel by Marta Marrero. Aurial Padel is a chain of padel clubs, mainly located in Catalonia, Spain. Contrary to what one might think, Aurial Padel does not specialise in selling padel equipment, but in managing padel clubs and sports facilities.

These clubs are equipped with panoramic courts and World Padel Tour (WPT) standard courts. They offer a variety of services such as private and group lessons, a padel school run by the player herself, and of course provide padel licences. Aurial Padel regularly organises tournaments and events to promote padel and offer competitive opportunities to its members.

Her successful return in 2024

Marta Marrero, the former world number one in padel, made a highly anticipated return to the professional circuit in June 2024, after a break of more than a year to devote herself to her family. Her return took place at the Premier Padel tournament in Bordeaux, where she played alongside Argentine player Aranza Osoro. Despite having no personal FIP points, thanks to Osoro's points, the duo was able to enter the tournament's main draw directly.

Marta Marrero had left the World Padel Tour at the end of the 2022 season to focus on her new life as a mother and on managing the Aurial Padel Academy. 

Her return to the circuit was marked by an impressive performance, demonstrating that she had lost none of her skills despite her break. She expressed her enthusiasm and commitment to the sport, stating that she was not yet considering permanent retirement.
