Shape: power or control?

By choosing the shape of your racket, you also choose the main type of your racket. The diamond shape is more of an explosive style, with the racket's balance shifted towards the top. This helps enhance overhead shots such as smashes or viboras, for example. However, be aware that diamond-shaped rackets are less manoeuvrable, which should also be taken into account. 

Faces: soft or rigid?

Another important criterion is the faces. They define the feel when striking the ball. Two different materials are used, but they can work very well together. The first is fibreglass, a fairly soft material considered the easiest to play with. This type of material is therefore recommended for beginner players because it is forgiving and often less expensive.

The other material is carbon, which is harder to control and more rigid. Recommended for experienced players who will be able to control its hardness and explosiveness, carbon rackets allow you to do more on the court. Carbon density can vary from 3K (less dense and therefore less rigid) to over 20K (harder and denser). This is a criterion to consider, as it affects the power as well as the responsiveness of your pala.

Foam: soft or rigid?

Foam, also called rubber, is what lies between the faces. Depending on its density, your feel when the ball is struck changes. If the foam is relatively soft, you will have more control but, above all, greater playing comfort when hitting the ball. For more power and responsiveness, Hard foam is preferable. However, be careful: the harder the foam, the more quickly injuries, especially to the elbow, can occur due to vibrations transmitted through the arm.
