What is a padel licence?
The padel licence is an official authorisation issued by the French Tennis Federation (FFT) in France. It is essential for enthusiasts of this sport and allows you to participate in competitions. Remember that for 1-on-1 padel, there are no official competitions.
Validity and Licence Format
The FFT licence is valid for one sporting year from 1 September to 31 August. Consequently, the earlier you get it in the season, the longer you can benefit from it (it is generally available from June preceding the start of validity). It is now in electronic format, and you will receive an email from the FFT to confirm its validity.

For several seasons, the FFT has clearly distinguished the padel licence from the multi-rackets licence. Each player can thus choose the option best suited to their game.

The multi-rackets licence is the most comprehensive option offered by the FFT. It brings together tennis, padel and beach tennis under one single licence. It is therefore the ideal option for players who enjoy variety or who play several racket sports within the same affiliated club. By choosing this package, you do not need to take out several different licences: you can freely enter competitions across all three disciplines, access corresponding official rankings, and enjoy the same partner perks as padel licence holders. Another interesting point: if you have already taken out a single padel licence and wish to broaden your game, you can upgrade it to a multi-rackets licence for a top-up fee of €7 (adults) or €1 (juniors). A flexible solution to discover other disciplines without starting from scratch.
Non-club licence
For those who only wish to take part in tournaments without being affiliated with an FFT club, the non-club licence is an alternative.

How to get a padel licence
To obtain your padel licence affiliated with the FFT, you must join a club that is affiliated with the federation. This step ensures you are welcomed into a sports structure that meets your needs and simplifies your playing experience. Joining a club will also make it easier to find a padel court and improve, for instance by learning how to serve properly in padel. Once you have chosen an affiliated club, the process of obtaining your licence is quick and easy. Simply go to the Ten’Up app or the club's website, where you can upload the required documents and submit your application. By following these steps, you will quickly receive your licence certificate.
What about medical certificates?
Minors can obtain their licence by completing a health questionnaire, unless at least one answer is positive, in which case they must provide a medical certificate less than 6 months old. For adults, starting from the 2023-2024 season, a medical certificate is no longer required to obtain a padel licence.
How long is a padel licence valid for and how do you renew it?
Your licence is valid for one year from 1 September to 31 August. If you are affiliated during the current year and wish to continue with the same club next year, a renewal request has already been generated at your current club. If you switch clubs, you will need to submit a new licence request with the new club.
The role of padel federations
Padel federations play an essential role in the development and promotion of the sport. They set the rules, organise competitions, and ensure players adhere to standards of fair play. As a padel licence holder, you help support these efforts and strengthen the padel community. In France, there is no padel federation as such; the French Tennis Federation fills this role, as the sport is not yet sufficiently developed to have its own federation.
