How to Choose the Right Women's Padel Racket?

First of all, it’s important to know that the main difference between a women’s racket and a men’s racket is the weight. Most women’s Padel rackets weigh less than 360 grams and are more maneuverable than men’s rackets. However, any lightweight racket—and, by extension, any racket on the market—can be used by women as long as it suits their playing style. The reverse is also true for men: women’s rackets, although lighter, can also be used by players looking for maneuverability.

When choosing a racket, there are several features to consider to ensure you buy the one best suited to your playing style. Check out this article on the best women’s rackets to learn more.

Shape: diamond, teardrop, or round?

The shape of the racket determines where the weight is distributed and defines whether the racket is geared toward power or control. Many women’s rackets are designed for control and feature a round shape to promote playing comfort and precision. As mentioned, women’s play is more tactical and relies more on ball placement than on raw power. That’s why these rackets are weighted lower, closer to the handle, to better control the opponent’s shots.

However, some rackets feature a diamond shape that maximizes power to unsettle opponents and outpace them. The weight is therefore balanced toward the top of the racket to increase explosiveness on high shots like volleys or smashes. For a more balanced and versatile game, the teardrop shape is also common in women’s rackets.

Racket faces: carbon or fiberglass?

The faces are also important when choosing a racket because they are the first part to make contact with the ball during a shot. Two different materials can be used to make these faces: carbon and fiberglass.

Offering more control and forgiveness, fiberglass is recommended for beginners or intermediate players. It’s also less expensive and is often used in low- to mid-range rackets. Carbon, on the other hand, is stiffer and harder to control but can be devastating when mastered. Recommended for experienced players, it is also more expensive, and rackets made with it will cost more as well.

Rubber: Soft or Firm?

The sponge (also called rubber) is the material between the rubber surfaces that determines how soft or stiff the racket feels. There are two types of sponge: Soft and Hard, and they are quite different. Soft foam makes the racket more comfortable and easier to control, helping to minimize unforced errors, while hard foam makes the racket stiffer and therefore more aggressive and powerful. It’s up to you to choose the foam and racket that best suit your playing style.

Women’s Rackets: Which One Should You Choose Based on Your Skill Level?

It’s very important to have a racket that’s perfectly suited to your skill level and playing style. If you’re a beginner, you’ll want a racket that’s easy to handlepreferably with a round or teardrop shape—and a fiberglass face that improves control and comfort. This is ideal for minimizing those frustrating early-game errors. For more experienced players, carbon rackets are worth considering. They’re stiffer and will help you reach your full potential!

Your playing style is also an important factor. If you’re a player who prioritizes control, then a round shape is best for greater control. For powerful players, the diamond shape is the most suitable. The foam also plays a role in the racket’s stiffness and how it’s used. The stiffer the racket, the better it suits powerful players.

Padel is becoming increasingly popular among women!

Although most players are men, Padel is becoming increasingly open to women. Many mixed-gender competitions and women-only tournaments are emerging and attracting more and more participants. Despite a slow start due to the sport’s lack of popularity, women’s Padel is gradually growing and gaining more regular female players. Our blog post on the evolution of women’s Padel discusses this—check it out if you’d like more information.

Brands Are Also Getting Involved in Women’s Padel

The leading manufacturers in the world of padel are aware of this trend and are actively producing rackets specifically designed for women. Brands such as Babolat, Bullpadel, Head, and Nox offer padel rackets for both men and women, while maintaining their expertise and cutting-edge technologies.

Follow in the footsteps of your favorite professional female players

On the professional circuit and in Spain in general, women play a significant role in Padel, bringing a welcome diversity to the sport for all players. Stars like Alejandra Salazar, Marta Marrero, and Alix Collombon from France are very popular on the circuits and bring a breath of fresh air and a style of play that differs from the men’s. More tactical and slower-paced, women’s play may be a little less spectacular but remains enjoyable to watch and, above all, more realistic for players who don’t have the power of the world’s very best.
