Tournoi padel P25 : comment ça marche et comment s'inscrire ?
Summary

What is a P25 padel tournament?

Padel tournaments are events that bring together more and more people across France and contribute greatly to our sport’s rapid growth. These tournaments also support the clubs that organise them, attracting local players while boosting club finances. As you can see, they are a vital part of the padel scene, at every level.

For tournaments to be enjoyable, they need to be balanced in terms of playing level. The FFT, which oversees padel in France, has introduced a fairly simple but effective ranking system. Players earn points according to where they finish in a tournament. This has led to different tournament categories. The number after the P indicates how many points the winner can add to their personal total. A P25 therefore offers the fewest points and is the most accessible category. It is often a player’s first tournament.

How are ranking points calculated in a P25?

The higher a pair finishes in a tournament, the more points the players earn and the further they climb in the French padel rankings . Points are allocated according to the number of pairs in the tournament. The table below explains how they are distributed. As you improve, you win more tournament matches, climb the rankings and become eligible for more competitive tournaments. After the P25 comes the P100.

What level is a P25 tournament?

The P25 is the most accessible tournament and awards the fewest ranking points. It lets players experience their first competitive matches and earn their first points. These tournaments generally bring together players around level 5. If you’re above that range, look at P100 or P250 tournaments. If you’re below it, you’ll need to spend more time training before entering officially sanctioned tournaments.

How are points scored in a P25?

The P25 is a tournament with a difference: it can take several formats depending on the number of pairs taking part. The aim is to let as many pairs as possible play. The best solution is therefore to create groups of six pairs, with each pair playing all the others in super tie-breaks to 10 points. The pairs are then ranked within their group and split into three separate draws to establish an overall ranking. From there, points are scored in the usual way, with two sets of four games to decide each match. Only the pairs finishing first or second in their group can compete for the tournament win.

How do you enter a P25 tournament?

Most P25 tournaments are generally open to all players. The idea is to bring different players together and give participants as many matches as possible. However, the organising club may reject your entry if your level is too low or too high, to maintain a certain balance in the tournament.

Entering a padel tournament couldn’t be simpler. First, check that your club organises them. At larger clubs, P25 tournaments are fairly frequent, with several each quarter. Smaller clubs may hold them less often, so you might need to travel a little further. To take part, you need a padel licence, which will place you in the rankings. Any club affiliated with the FFT can provide one. It costs just €26 for a season and is valid for all types of officially sanctioned tournaments.

Clubs also charge an entry fee, which they set themselves. At each tournament, a tournament referee is present to manage the draw and schedule. Padel balls are provided for every match.

Now you know all about P25 tournaments, a great way to meet fellow padel enthusiasts and test your level against different pairs. It’s the first step into competition, so give it a go — you won’t get bored!
