The final steps towards the biggest tournaments
Beyond the intermediate level comes the advanced level, where rackets become increasingly technical and feature ever more sophisticated technologies. Generally, players at levels 6 to 8 are considered advanced. If you are unfamiliar with this grading system, which some French clubs have adopted, read this article about padel skill levels to learn more and see which category you fall into. Choose a racket that suits your level!
It is essential to choose a racket that suits your playing style and skill level. For an advanced player, using an intermediate or beginner racket will not help them improve, and it will feel much less satisfying to play with. By definition, an advanced player plays padel regularly, several times a week, and performs well in P100 and P250 tournaments.

How do you choose an advanced racket?
As with other rackets, there are three main characteristics to consider carefully when choosing the racket best suited to your game.
Racket shape: round, teardrop or diamond?
Unlike players in the two lower categories (beginners and intermediates), advanced players have a much wider choice of shapes. Teardrop and round shapes, which focus on control and shot precision, are still available, but there are also more and more diamond-shaped rackets, which are more explosive at the expense of ball control and shot mastery. Nevertheless, these players are increasingly using diamond rackets as they become more familiar with the subtleties of the game. Choose your racket’s shape to suit your playing style.
The racket faces: is carbon really a good idea?
When it comes to racket faces, you have more options here too. While lower-level categories mostly featured fibreglass faces, more and more rackets in this category have carbon faces or a carbon and fibreglass blend. Carbon faces are much stiffer and offer more possibilities, particularly in attacking play. Although carbon is harder to master than fibreglass, experienced players can still adapt quickly and unlock their full potential. A textured finish is also sometimes added to the faces to help generate spin and unsettle your opponents.
Foam: soft or hard?
The foam, also known as the core, is essential when choosing a padel racket. It is what gives shots a ‘soft’ feel when Soft foam is used. This improves precision and playing comfort, whereas with Hard foam, shots feel crisper and firmer and are more powerful.
Bear in mind that if a racket has all the characteristics of a powerful racket, elbow pain may develop with continued play. To limit this, it is best to use vibration dampeners to reduce the risk of injuries associated with the racket’s stiffness.
What better way to carry your rackets than in a bag?
