Does Adidas really need an introduction? Founded in Germany in 1949 by Adolf Dassler, the sports brand is one of the world’s leading sporting goods manufacturers. As it expanded into a range of sports, Adidas entered racket sports early on, sponsoring global tennis star Stan Smith in 1968 with shoes that are now known worldwide. Shape: power or control? 

Shape is a fundamental feature of a racket and determines its main playing characteristics. The diamond shape is associated with power and explosiveness. With its head-heavy balance, it favours smashes and powerful shots, allowing left-side players to unleash their attacking potential! 

For players who prefer control and manoeuvrability, rackets with a round shape are the best option. Weight towards the racket’s handle improves control and precision, sometimes at the expense of a little power. 

Between the two, the teardrop shape offers greater versatility and is also popular with players still finding their playing style. Very well balanced, this type of racket favours balance and all-round ability in attack and defence. 

The racket faces: soft or rigid? 

Racket faces are very important because they have the greatest effect on how a racket feels to play with. Two main materials are used: carbon and fibreglass. Fibreglass is flexible, soft and generally easy to use. Recommended for beginners and intermediate players, it’s also inexpensive. Carbon, meanwhile, is more rigid and harder to master, but is recommended for more experienced players who can control its power. Its greater explosiveness and rigidity give players more options on court, particularly when attacking high balls and volleys. 

Foam: Soft or Hard? 

The foam, also known as the core, sits between the racket faces and varies according to your playing style. For more control and, above all, greater playing comfort, choose a Soft foam. For more rigidity and responsiveness, Hard foam is what you need. Be aware, though, that this type of foam can increase the risk of injury, particularly to the elbow, because it produces more vibrations than a soft foam.

For now, only a few rackets use this material, but the brand has no plans to stop there and already has other ideas for making padel more environmentally friendly.
