How do you choose an advanced racket? 

As with other rackets, there are 3 main characteristics to consider carefully when selecting the racket best suited to your game. 

Shape: what should you choose between round, teardrop or diamond?

Unlike the 2 lower categories (beginners and intermediate players), advanced players have far more choice between different shapes. Teardrop shapes and round shapes, which are strongly focused on control and precision in shots, are still available, but more and more rackets in a diamond shape, which are more explosive but at the expense of ball control and shot mastery. However, more and more diamond rackets are used by these players, who are becoming increasingly familiar with the subtleties of the game. It is up to you to adapt the shape of your racket to your playing style. 

Racket faces: carbon, a really good idea? 

For racket faces, you also have more choice. While the lower categories mostly offered fibreglass faces, more and more rackets in this category use carbon faces or a carbon/fibreglass blend. Carbon faces are much stiffer and offer far more possibilities, especially in attacking play. More difficult to master than fibreglass, experienced players can nevertheless adapt quickly and unleash their full potential. Texture is also sometimes added to the faces to enhance spin and unsettle your opponents. 

Foam: soft or hard?

Foam, also known as rubber, is also essential when choosing a racket. It is this element that makes the feel of shots "soft" when Soft foam is used. It promotes precision and playing comfort, whereas if Hard foam is used, shots are crisper and stiffer and more powerful. 

Note that if a racket has all the characteristics of a powerful racket, elbow pain may occur from playing repeatedly. To limit these effects, it is preferable to use anti-vibration dampeners to reduce the risk of injuries linked to the racket's stiffness.
