Founded in Sweden in 2011, Oxdog initially specialized in floorball, a Swedish sport similar to hockey that is played with a stick. Since the sticks are made of carbon fiber, the brand ventured into another sport in 2022 where this material is used: Padel. The Ultimate line, which focuses on powerful rackets; the Hyper line, which features versatile, all-around rackets; and the Sense line, which offers rackets geared toward ball control and playing comfort. These lines are further divided into several models to ensure that every player has a racket 100% suited to their style.

How to Choose Your Oxdog Racket?

As with all brands, you shouldn’t necessarily choose the best Padel racket available, but rather the one best suited to your playing style. Several criteria should be taken into account. 

The shape of the racket: round or diamond?

In Padel, several racket shapes are available, and they can significantly change the way you play with a racket. 

The diamond shape is designed for players looking for power and aggression. The weight is balanced toward the head of the racket, making overhead shots (smashes, bandejas, viboras) much more effective. However, since the weight is distributed far from your hand, control and maneuverability are compromised, especially for shots below the waist. The rackets in the Ultimate line are diamond-shaped.

The round shape, unlike the diamond shape, prioritizes ball control and defense. The weight is balanced toward the handle, which enhances maneuverability as well as ball control. Very useful for minimizing errors, these rackets may, however, lack a bit of explosiveness and power when finishing points with force. Oxdog’s Sense line includes round rackets. 

Finally, the last shape offered is the teardrop, from the Hyper line. Teardrop-shaped rackets offer a balance between control and power, with weight centered in the head. They’re ideal for players seeking the greatest possible versatility. But be careful—this also means there’s no obvious strength in your game! 

The faces: stiff or flexible? 

The faces are another factor to consider; they determine the racket’s stiffness. Carbon fiber—for which Oxdog is known—and fiberglass are the materials used to make the faces of Padel rackets. 

Fiberglass is a fairly flexible material used for its forgiveness. In fact, fiberglass rackets are quite popular among beginners thanks to their affordability. They offer better ball control and help minimize those frustrating unforced errors common to beginners.  However, be aware of the lack of power and the racket’s excessive flexibility, which may become a hindrance as you improve. 

Carbon-faced rackets, on the other hand, are quite stiff and are only suitable for intermediate or advanced players, as mastering them requires experience in Padel. Among all carbon rackets, the carbon density can vary, ranging from 3k (less dense, more forgiving) to 18k (very dense, very powerful). Most Oxdog rackets are made of carbon and are fairly stiff. 

The Foam: Soft or Hard?

The foam is located between the two faces and is a crucial element in how the ball feels as well as how it behaves as it leaves the racket; it can be more or less flexible. 

At Oxdog, we use four different types of foam: Hard, Medium Plus, Medium, and Soft. The logic is the same as for the faces: the harder and denser the foam, the more responsive your racket will be and the better its reactivity on returns. On the other hand, the softer the foam, the more comfortable and controllable your shots will be. Be aware, however, of the risk of injury that can result from using hard foam with rigid faces.
