Ah, sweat in padel… it’s a hot topic right now!
Summer is coming! With high temperatures forecast for the coming months, sweat is making its presence felt on padel courts. Of course, some players don’t wait until summer to work up a sweat on court… But many face this problem during the summer months. Playing in full sun or in a hot indoor venue can make you sweat heavily all over.
Sweat can become a real problem in padel when it reaches the hand holding the racket. That’s why a wrist strap is mandatory on all padel rackets: it helps prevent accidents if a racket slips from your hand.
Holding your racket securely is essential in padel: it gives you more confidence in your shots.
A few accessories can prove very useful, depending on how much you sweat.
Light sweating
If sweat reaches your hands in the summer heat, we recommend using a terry wristband and fitting overgrips to your racket.
Terry wristband or headband
A terry wristband can be an excellent accessory if you feel sweat running down your arm onto your hand. It stops sweat running down your arm and can also be used to wipe your forehead between points. As well as being practical, its range of colours lets you complete your outfit in style.
Sweat isn’t just a problem on your hands; it can also run down your face. Sweatbands are an effective way to deal with it.
Overgrips
Unlike grips, overgrips are much thinner. They go over grips and need replacing from time to time. Some players use the grip alone, while others prefer an overgrip. Either way, you’ll need to replace the layer your hand rests on when it no longer gives you enough grip. Replacing an overgrip is easier and cheaper than replacing a grip. That’s why most padel players now use an overgrip on their padel racket.
But an overgrip has other useful functions too:
- Make the handle thicker
- Greater comfort
- Absorb sweat and improve your grip on the racket
That’s the point we’re focusing on here: an overgrip can absorb sweat effectively. But not all overgrips are equal. Choose perforated overgrips, which absorb a little more sweat than standard overgrips.
These two solutions can make playing more comfortable if you have mild problems with sweat. But they aren’t miracle cures: other accessories are more effective at tackling it.
Moderate sweating
Do you sweat a little all year round, but find summer particularly tough? Then you’re in the right place. Read on: the accessories below have become popular with many players recently.
The famous honeycomb-shaped Hesacore grip
The innovative Hesacore grip has revolutionised the market in recent years.
This grip, fitted directly onto the bare handle of the racket, has won over many padel players thanks to its benefits:
- Absorbs vibrations and reduces the risk of injury
- Improves comfort and feel during play
- Improves your hand’s grip on the handle
That last benefit is what interests us here. Thanks to its honeycomb shape and distinctive raised texture, your hand gets a much better hold than it would on a conventional smooth handle.
Practical tip: Remove the original grip from your racket before fitting this sleeve-style grip. It comes in a box with plastic strips to help you fit it easily.
Please note: you can’t play with this grip on its own. You’ll need to add an overgrip to hold it in place on the handle.
Gorilla Gold® towel by Nox
This towel from Nox will be your ally at every change of ends. The patented Gorilla Gold® technology has already proved itself in sports such as golf and hockey, where a secure grip is essential.
Simply wipe the sweat from your racket handle and hands. The resin infused into the towel then helps repel moisture.
These accessories are, of course, must-haves for anyone who sweats a bit too much. But there’s a more radical solution for players who struggle with it year-round and find it especially hard to manage their sweat in summer.
Heavy sweating
If you’re dripping with sweat in winter and summer alike, can’t find a workable solution and have tried everything listed above without success, this might just be the miracle product that lets you enjoy the padel court again!
4on products: for optimal grip!

4on is a Swedish brand offering two types of product: a tacky spray and an adhesive cream. As explained in our article on 4on, these are undoubtedly the most effective products on the market for tackling sweat and slipping rackets,
With the cream, a pea-sized amount is enough to create an effective tacky feel. It feels sticky without being uncomfortable, and the racket stays secure in your hand even when sweat reaches the handle. The only drawback is that it becomes less effective after 45 minutes, so you’ll need to reapply it at a change of ends.
The spray, meanwhile, can be applied to the handle or your hands and also ensures a very secure hold on the racket by preventing slips. Unlike the cream, the spray can last for a whole match. However, the very tacky feel of the handle may bother you during play. After the match, a thorough rinse with warm water is enough to remove it.
As you can see, there are several ways to stop sweat from bothering you during your padel matches.
You can also use several of these accessories during a match, as I do in summer. For example, to make sure sweat doesn’t get in your way, combine a Hesacore grip with a perforated overgrip, a terry wristband and chalk powder to apply to your hands during the match. Follow these tips and sweat should no longer bother you during your action-packed padel matches! 😊
