Learn more about padel rackets to choose the right one

To choose your padel racket, we will first detail what it is and the important features to consider.

Composition of a racketpadel

A padel racket is made up of four distinct elements:

  • Theracket frame
  • Thecore - racquet gum
  • Thestrike zone
  • Theracket coating

All snowshoes must follow theregulationofa number of criteria.VSthe rulescome from theat International Federation ofPadel andare thefollowing:

  • Length455 mm
  • Width260 mm
  • Thickness38 mm
  • Zone ofhit :300 mm long and 260 mm wide
  • Zstrike one : presence of holes with a diameter of 9 to 13 mm in diameter, their number is notpas limited
  • Presence of a safety cordon at the end of the handle with a maximum length of 350 mm.

Around these regulatory criteria, it is necessary toknow the 5 technical characteristics that define a racquetpadel. Their combinations make each racket uniqueand will make it suitable (or not) for you and yourGame !

Thecharacteristicsmain of a padel racket

Lsnowshoe shape

Three different shapes of rackets exist, each one corresponds to a gameplay style.

  • Round shapethisform providesthe bestcontrolthanks (in general) to a balance rather in the neck. The maneuverability permand to feelquicklycomfortable with snowshoesround padel.Below is an example of round racket.

  • Teardrop shapethis form presentsthe best ratio between control and power. It is therefore recommended for intermediate level players (level 5-8)This is the best-selling form currentlyen Francethanksto the combomastery / power. Below are different examples of teardrop-shaped racket.

  • Diamond shapethe power available with this form of racquet makes it a racquetintended for advanced players with aWelltechnical level. These racketshave asweetspotfairly small in size, what strengthens their technical aspect.Below are some examples of diamond shaped rackets.

The balancesnowshoeing

Balance is generally related to the racket shape.

  • Round racquets: balance in the handle, better handling and control but power loss in your keystrokes.
  • Teardrop snowshoes: versatile medium balance, the compromise between control and power
  • Diamond rackets: head balance that gives power snowshoeing with a loss of maneuverability.

Manufacturing materialsa racket

The manufacturers of padel rackets use the same main materials namely fiberglass, of the carbon fiber and kevlar. These different materials aim to provide strength, control and power.

  • Fiberglass : flexible, resistant at an affordable price but significant weight and slow reaction to deformation. Used mainly on the racquet head surface. Here is for example the Babolat Reflexwhich is made of fiberglass.

  • Carbon fiber : light and quite rigid, and with a good explosiveness, it is clearly the material in vogue for the rackets ofpadelcurrently! Here is for example the Bullpadel Hack 02 2021 which is composed in carbon fiber.

  • Kevlar: rare because its cost is high but it offers good resistance. It can also be used to reinforce certain points of rackets

Like a relaxed string, a soft material will give more power but less control, while a hard material will provide more control of the strike with less power. An article will also be devoted to this subject.

Other "secondary" materials are involved in the manufacture of a racket such as the EVA gum, thefoam, titanium, graphite, etc.

The core

In the core of the racket there are mainly two types of foam. The EVA rubber, and all its variations according to the different brands, and FOAM (polyethylene foam).

These two types of foam have opposite characteristics even if the brands have made changes to have a wide variation of each foam

  • EVA gum: hard, less flexible, high durability. Widely used by different brands, it allows a lot of control thanks to the rigidity. But beware the rigidity of this foam can be the cause of injury, especially in case of imperfect technique.
  • FOAM foam: soft, medium control, medium power but a very fast ball exit. The foamFoamis more fragile, and therefore the rackets last less.

Weight directly influences the way you play and is related to your playing style. The greater the weight, the more powerful strike. And conversely, the lower the weight, the faster and more precise you will be, but with power loss.

The weight of a padel racket varies between 300g and 390g.
